Tommy Baxter and his mother have returned to Silver Creek for the first time since - well, since before Tommy was even born. Justin Gates is a queer, horror-obsessed, and emotionally available writer, musician, performer, and producer based in Brooklyn, NY. A farm kid from northern Vermont, Gates grew up surrounded by music and nature, taught from a young age a deep appreciation for storytelling and healthy taste for the strange which is the province of rural New Englanders. He works to craft sincere, intimate works that steep themselves in beauty, oddity, humor, and sometimes the darker sides of ourselves, putting queerness in all its forms at the center of compelling, multidimensional human narratives. His works in musical theatre include Sawyer Thompson, written with lyricist and librettist Colin Gallagher, which is a queer reimagining of the characters of Mark Twain set on Cape Cod; the bluegrass concept show The Secret City, also with Gallagher, which uses classic Americana storytelling to relay the true history of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and its role in the Manhattan Project; and the horror musical The Place Between, written with Celine Snippe, which reimagines and reclaims the short stories of HP Lovecraft. In audio, Gates and Snippe partnered again as Residents in the Brick Theatre SoundLab, where they authored the award-winning immersive horror podcast You’re the Last One, for which Gates writes, directs, performs, produces, and scores. Janet - written, directed, and starring Emily Dayton Evans - is Gates's debut in film scoring. He has also been recognized for his works of short fiction, and is currently shopping around a queer YA horror novel, if anyone is interested. Gates's work has received Finalist, Semi-Finalist, and short-list inclusions from the O'Neill Music Theatre Conference, WoWs NoW, Florida Festival of New Musicals, Seattle's New and Next Festival, Berklee's Curtain Up! Festival, the MT Roundup, Verse Intro Cabaret, Sacramento Staged Reading Series, and the Vineyard Arts Project. He's got a big ol' Bachelors of Music from Berklee College in Boston, and, completely by accident, an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch.Celine Snippe (she/her) is a lyricist, librettist, playwright, and fiction podcast writer. Originally from the Netherlands, she is currently based in NYC. Celine is penning book and lyrics for Van Gogh: An Original Musical, created with composer Eric Fegan and co-conceivers Will Nunziata, Rachel Bertone, and Emily White (in development), and The Place Between, a Lovecraftian musical co-written with Justin Gates (29-hour reading, dir. Mike Donahue). She is working with Gates to create You’re the Last One, an immersive horror podcast, which was developed through The Brick Theatre’s Sound Lab Residency and won the award for Best Horror Podcast at the 2023 Minnesota Webfest. You’re the Last One was an official selection for Apulia Web Fest (Nominee: Best Fiction Podcast), Baltimore Next Media Web Fest, Sydney Web Fest, and New Zealand Web Fest. Across the pond, Celine wrote book and lyrics for Free Solo, a rock climbing musical, with composer Jack Godfrey. Free Solo has been produced at Hen & Chickens Theatre, Tristan Bates Theatre, and Drayton Arms Theatre. Celine has taught bookwriting and lyric writing at SUNY Purchase College and she’s a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop (Advanced Songwriting & Advanced Bookwriting). She holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing (New York University), an MA in Musical Theatre (University of London), and a BA in Theatre Studies (University of Amsterdam).David Tatasciore is an audio engineer and sound designer based in New York. He is the co-producer and sound designer of What's The Story?, a fiction podcast that's both a love letter to public radio storytelling and a satire of "post-truth" America. David has also done sound design for Dipsea Stories and Audible's The Cinnamon Bear, and has worked as music editor and score mixer on various QCODE podcasts. In addition, he's a horror movie fanatic, and will happily give you his ranking of every entry in the Friday the 13th series, whether you want him to or not.
